What are Dental Emergencies?

Children often experience a number of dental-related emergencies by the time they reach adulthood. While many emergencies can be prevented with proper oral hygiene and care, there are certain issues that are simply unavoidable. In any case, we offer high-quality pediatric emergency care to our patients. We are able to help both new as well as existing patients who are in need of immediate dental treatment.

When Do I Need To Treat a Dental Emergency?

Unfortunately, many dental-related problems will not go away on their own. No matter what type of home remedy you try for your child, the pain, discomfort or frustration lingers, and it can be detrimental to their quality of life. We offer care to children and teens of all ages in a kid-friendly, safe environment. Our goal is to provide this care in a way that helps your child rather than scares them.

I cannot say enough good things about Lincoln Children's Dentistry! They are an awesome team of knowledgeable, kind, and professional people who know how to talk with and care for children.

What are some common pediatric Dental Emergencies?

Your child may be experiencing an emergency that is leaving them in severe pain or discomfort. They might have an issue with a cracked or broken restoration and need to be seen right away. Some of the more common emergencies we see in our office include:

Boy Satisfied With The Service In The Dental Office. Concept Of Pediatric Dental Treatment
  • Broken or cracked teeth
  • Toothache and severe pain
  • Bleeding or swollen gums
  • Wisdom tooth-related pain and discomfort
  • Broken or cracked restorations (crowns, fillings)
  • Loose teeth
  • Abscesses and infections
  • Orthodontic-related emergencies

When a dental emergency happens, we will give your child our first available emergency appointment time. Depending on our office hours, you may want to schedule a Virtual Consult with Dr. Scott to assess the severity of the emergency.

Although we do submit claims to insurance companies, we require the co-payment be paid at the time of service for an in-office dental emergency visit. When you provide our team your insurance information, they will be able to verify an estimated patient portion for your convenience.

What can your child expect during Dental Emergency treatment?

Emergency treatment is specific to the child and their own individual needs. Your child will be greeted by one of our professionally trained staff members. We will ask about the problem and may take x-rays as needed to help further identify the issue. Our doctor will then examine your child’s teeth and create a personalized treatment plan. Our goal is to have your child leave our office pain-free and feeling confident in their smile. If your child’s tooth was knocked out during sports or another activity, it is important to not clean or brush the tooth and to place it in a glass of milk prior to coming into the office. By doing so, we may be able to save the tooth by reinserting it into the socket.

If your child is experiencing a dental emergency, call us today so that we can get them in as soon as possible to be seen.
